Care and Caregiving

Caregiving is the work of Christian community. At Saint George’s, caregiving occurs in a variety of ways as we seek to really see each individual in our community and to value them for their unique gifts and challenges. Many consider caregiving the work of the clergy, and yet caregiving is everyone’s work. From greeting a fellow parishioner by name when they walk through our doors, to praying for those on our prayer list, to providing a ride, a meal, a loving phone call, Saint Georgians take care of one another.

Saint Georgians also care for our neighbors. Our outreach and social justice ministries are, of course, methods of care, but we also care for our neighbors through prayer, making our facilities accessible to those with special needs, getting to know our Food Pantry clients and homeless neighbors, and sharing signs of peace with those who pass our buildings and grounds.

Prayer

Prayer, whether it be for ourselves, for one another, or for the world, is a call and a gift.

As a Christian community we are called to join together in regular prayer, and we are blessed by the opportunity to gather our thanksgivings, concerns, needs, desires, and griefs in prayer before God.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is the ministry at Saint George’s dedicated to supporting parishioners with meals, groceries, rides, and errands during times of need.

We are always seeking additional volunteers and invite any who might feel called to this ministry to reach out. We are also always here for those in need of care.

PASTORAL VISITS

Both clergy and trained lay parishioners make pastoral visits, where the goal is not “doing for” but “being with.” Of course, doing for can be powerful and necessary, especially when someone is in need. Our Helping Hands Ministry can attest to the importance of supporting parishioners in this way. Pastoral visits are a bit different, in that they offer a ministry of presence - of being with those in need of comfort and/or company. If you are a parishioner in need of a pastoral visit or if you would like to learn more about providing pastoral care, please be in touch with Our Rector, Shearon Williams.
