December 3: Rebuild

Submitted by Rebecca Saathoff Davis

As I toss this word around in my head, contemporary images flash by first. Rebuilding our organ. How society will rebuild after Covid. I zoom out a little further and see the people of New Orleans who rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. And that makes me think of other disasters- natural or otherwise. A song that then comes to mind is β€œThe Housefire,” written by Evan Felker, lead singer of the Turnpike Troubadors. A man, a woman, and their baby escape from their burning house with a precious few items and, most importantly, each other. And I wonder if maybe Joseph, Mary, and Jesus, on that dark night in Bethlehem, felt a little like that too?
