December 4th: Fellowship

Submitted by Jim Causey

We, the congregation of Saint George’s, gather in Christian fellowship on various occasions, large and small, in person and virtually, to celebrate in the here and now the manifold gifts of God’s grace. We do this formally on Sundays when we share in the fellowship of praise and thanksgiving for God’s grace, and informally throughout the week as the Creator, Redeemer and Comforter calls upon each of us to pursue personal ministries of fellowship in sometimes pensive, sometimes boisterous, sometimes joyful, and sometimes unsettling interactions with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, and in chance encounters with strangers.

Fellowship means experiencing in the here and now the unique diversity of God’s image imbued in each human being, an image particularly visible when looked for intentionally. Fellowship means keeping awake to the image of God through which we are continually created, redeemed and inspired as each day unfolds. Let us pray in this Advent season that we may “tune in” and be mindful of God’s call to fellowship, and witness to this call with inquiring, discerning and caring hearts, the courage to will, persevere and seek forgiveness when we fall short, and to embrace with joy and wonder the fullness of God’s creation.
