20s and 30s Lenten Study
Lent 2021: 20s and 30s read George Bernard Shaw's The Devil's Disciple - On Sunday evenings this Lent, St. George's 20s and 30s will read together Shaw's 1897 play about personal morality, Christlike love, and whether calling oneself a good Christian is the same thing as being one; set in the last days of the American Revolution. Rather than reading on our own ahead of time, we will take roles and read half of an act of the play each week during our Zoom, followed by discussion of the theme of the week (it is not necessary to be able to attend all 6 sessions). By Easter we hope to have learned something about Christ's sacrifice and also settled the suspenseful question of whether the British managed to hang onto their American colonies. The play is in the public domain and a link will be provided if you wish to use a free online text (you are encouraged NOT to start reading on your own, unless you will miss the first session). Contact Allison Otto (allisonotto@gmail.com) or Rebecca Saathoff Davis (rksdavis@gmail.com) to RSVP (so we can plan a bit in advance for roles) and with any questions!
