Virtual Holy Week: Ancient Services, Modern Technology
Dear Friends,
I hope you are finding ways to stay grounded in our faith during this time of trial. The hardship is very real and yet there are blessings everywhere. One of the things that I am most thankful for is the resilience of our community. Saint Georgians are a resourceful, adaptive bunch! I am amazed at all of the creativity and connectedness that has shown forth in the last few weeks. Our ministries are very much alive and well as we find new ways of proclaiming God’s love and sharing God’s love.
This Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. I really hope that you will participate in our on-line Holy Week services. They will be familiar and yet different, ancient liturgies being made new by the circumstances of our day. If you are not accustomed to attending in-person Holy Week services, this will be an opportunity to experience them for the first time. If you already have the spiritual practice of attending Holy Week services, this on-line worship may give you a fresh perspective.
I look forward to walking together with Jesus, beginning with his triumphal entry into Jerusalem this Palm Sunday. We know that as we walk the way of this pandemic, Jesus is with us. He has walked the way of suffering before us and walks with us still.
During our Virtual House Church leaders check-in this morning, Elliott Branch offered this prayer. I invite us to pray it this week as we rise to meet each new day.
This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.
