Loving God with our Whole Heart
Dear Friends,
We are all deeply saddened by the shootings of eight people in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian American women. We mourn the deaths of Delaina Yuan, Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Paul Michaels and the victims who are yet unnamed. We pray for healing for Elcias Hernandez-Ortiz who was injured and for Robert Long, the alleged gunman.
We also decry the racial and gender prejudice that apparently motivated this attack. Many Asian Americans have been living in fear of violence since the pandemic began and it is so important for all of us to speak out against scapegoating attitudes and actions. We have a long history in our country of injustice toward Asian Americans and we ask God to redeem that history and make us instruments of God’s peace.
I look forward to coming together on-line in worship this Sunday, mindful that as followers of Jesus, we are called to love God with our whole heart, soul and mind and our neighbor as ourself.
Yours in Christ,
Shearon+
